It was a battle between these two teams in Game 1, but playoff Jimmy Butler was activated and the Heat upset the Celtics, 123-116, on the road. Butler was fantastic as he scored a game-high 35 points and dished out seven assists. Butler was getting anything he wanted, going 2-4 from behind the arc, and went 9-10 from the free throw line. The Celtics just did not have an answer for Butler.
The Celtics offense was fantastic in this one as well, shooting over 50% from the field. Tatum continued to stay hot scoring 30 points and making all 11 of his free throws. Jaylen Brown also finished with 22 points and Malcolm Brogdon chipped in with 19 points off the bench.
It was surprising to see the Heat score 123 points considering the Celtics had the second-highest defensive rating in the NBA during the regular season. The Heat also have not been a good offensive team this year; ranking in the bottom-six in offensive efficiency. However, with Butler playing great, the Heat have been better offensively, ranking just behind the Nuggets and Celtics in offensive efficiency through 12 playoff games.
With the Heat already stealing a game on the road, they accomplished what they were looking for and that is taking the home-court advantage back in the series. This game has a letdown all over it, plus this is close to a must-win for the Celtics. The Celtics should take care of business at home in this one by double-digits.
